Be Kind to Your Neighbors - A Word About Burning
At a number of meetings, in consideration of residents in the Village who suffer from asthma or bronchitis, the Village Board has discussed the creation and adoption of an ordinance concerning fires (for burning leaves, etc.) and recreational fires. At this time, no ordinance has been adopted. Board consensus is that "common sense" and a "good neighbor" attitude should prevail.
It was brought up at the Board that disposal companies that service Monroe Center (such as Veolia and Rockford Disposal) will accept yard waste. Please check with your disposal service provider for the requirements and additional costs to you, if any apply.
If you are considering the burning of yard waste or having a recreational fire, please be kind to your neighbors and take the following precautions:
* Check wind conditions before burning.
* Make sure the material your plan to burn is not damp. Smoldering fires cause the most discomfort to individuals with breathing problems.
* Don't leave any fire unattended.
* Extinguish your fire when you can't attend it.
* Don't allow fires to burn or smolder all night.
